Overview

Overview

Yard RTLS Heatmaps turns the firehose of UWB / RFID / GPS position fixes from your yard RTLS into instantly readable maps: where containers are stuck, which equipment is idling, and which sectors are over-utilised. It is the "why" layer on top of live RTLS — the difference between knowing where things are and knowing what to do about it.

Designed for terminal ops directors, yard planners and shift supervisors who need to make re-stack and re-assignment decisions in minutes, not weekly review meetings.

  • Dwell-time heatmap — instantly spot stuck containers (red = >14 days)
  • Equipment utilisation heatmap — idle vs active time per asset, per sector
  • Congestion heatmap — vehicle density and choke-points by hour
  • Action centre — dispatch re-stack orders straight from a hot spot

How It Works

  1. Ingest fix stream from the yard RTLS (12k positions / sec on a busy terminal).
  2. Spatial bin — project onto a 50×50 grid (or finer) over the yard footprint.
  3. Dwell calc — per-tag time-in-cell rolled up to per-container dwell-days.
  4. Render WebGL tiles — smooth coloured overlays at 60 FPS on the planner's map.
  5. Thresholds & alerts — cells crossing red thresholds trigger work-order suggestions.

Features

  • 4 heat modes — dwell, equipment-idle, congestion, custom KPI
  • Time-travel — slide through any hour/day/week to see how zones formed
  • Sector roll-up — utilisation, dwell distribution, throughput per sector
  • Hot-zone alerts — configurable thresholds with email / Slack / PagerDuty
  • Action centre — click a hot spot, generate a re-stack / re-assign work order
  • Exports — PNG / PDF for management decks; CSV for BI tools
  • Equipment heatmaps — where does each RS / YT spend its shift?
  • Compare periods — this week vs last week heatmap delta

Use Cases

  • Stuck inventory cleanup — visualise & clear long-dwell containers blocking turnover
  • Sector rebalancing — surface over-used and under-used storage sectors
  • Equipment fleet right-sizing — data-driven case for adding or shedding reach stackers
  • Operator coaching — spot routing patterns that create congestion
  • Customer SLA reviews — per-line dwell distribution, on-time metrics
  • Capacity planning — before / after heatmaps to validate yard re-design
