Overview

Overview

Smart Greenhouse is a complete climate-control platform for commercial glasshouses and polytunnels — sensors, a PID + rules controller and cloud / mobile dashboards that coordinate roof and side vents, circulation and exhaust fans, heaters, irrigation valves, CO₂ dosing and supplemental LED grow lighting against a per-crop climate recipe.

Built for tomato, cucumber, lettuce, strawberry, cannabis and propagator operators who want to lock in a precise Daily Light Integral (DLI), Vapour Pressure Deficit (VPD) and CO₂ profile, hit harvest dates predictably, cut energy use 20–35%, and stop chasing alarms in person at 2 a.m.

  • One controller, every actuator — vents, fans, heat, irrigation, lights, CO₂, shade screens
  • Crop-recipe based — DLI / VPD / EC / temperature targets per growth stage, applied automatically
  • Offline-safe — local controller runs the house even if the internet drops
  • Energy & yield savings — typical 20–35% energy cut, 8–18% yield uplift vs manual setpoints

How It Works

The diagram above shows the four layers of a Smart Greenhouse deployment. Hover any module to see the live telemetry it produces.

  1. The Greenhouse — sensors (air T/RH, leaf temp, PAR, CO₂, soil moisture, irradiance) and actuators (vents, fans, heaters, drippers, grow lights, CO₂ valves) physically wired into the structure.
  2. Climate Algorithm — a local PID + rules engine reads the sensors and drives every actuator against the current crop recipe (e.g. tomato Stage-3: 24 °C day / 18 °C night, VPD 0.9 kPa, DLI 22 mol, CO₂ 900 ppm).
  3. Cloud Dashboard — every house across every site rolls up with 24h trends, DLI accumulation, yield vs baseline, energy use, alarms; supports multi-tenant for operators with several growers.
  4. Grower & Alerts — push and SMS for the head grower, role-based view for owner / agronomist / maintenance, one-tap manual override and recipe-step changes.

A continuous feedback loop pushes recipe edits, grower overrides, model retrainings and firmware back to the controller — visible as the purple stream along the bottom of the diagram.

Features

  • Crop recipes — pre-loaded for tomato, cucumber, lettuce, strawberry, basil, cannabis, propagation
  • VPD & DLI engines — climate driven by plant physiology, not just air temperature
  • Multi-zone — independent setpoints per bay, row, or growth-stage table
  • CO₂ enrichment — closed-loop dosing tied to vent position so CO₂ isn't wasted
  • Light recipe scheduler — sunrise-tracking, far-red end-of-day pulse, photoperiod control
  • Energy & cost telemetry — kWh per crop cycle, gas burn per growing degree-day
  • Offline-safe edge runtime — controller keeps running for days without cloud
  • Open integrations — Priva, Hoogendoorn, Argus, Autogrow, generic Modbus / BACnet / 0–10 V actuators

Use Cases

  • Hydroponic vegetables — tomato, cucumber, pepper, lettuce, strawberry
  • Propagators & nurseries — high-precision germination and finishing rooms
  • Cannabis / medicinal crops — vegetative and flowering rooms, GMP-grade data trail
  • Research glasshouses — university and seed-company trial blocks with per-bay treatment
  • Garden centres & ornamentals — energy-cost reduction, late-night unmanned operation
  • Cold-climate winter production — vent / heat / supplemental light coordination for low-sun months
