Overview

Overview

OPC UA Server is the unified, secure, vendor-neutral communication layer that lets every PLC, drive, sensor, SCADA, MES, ERP, historian, and cloud service in your plant talk the same language. It models your physical asset hierarchy as an information address space, exposes it through a strict IEC 62541 server, and lets any conforming client browse, subscribe, read history, and receive events — all over TLS-secured channels with X.509 mutual auth.

Built for sites where Siemens PLCs, Allen-Bradley drives, Mitsubishi controllers, Beckhoff motion, ABB instruments, and a dozen smart sensors all need to feed one MES and one historian without writing custom integrations. OPC UA is the only standard accepted by every major automation vendor, and the SGT server delivers it with industrial-grade performance, security hardening to IEC 62443, and TÜV-pre-tested certificates.

  • Address-space modelling — ISA-95 / ISA-88 / Companion Spec (PackML, Euromap, Robotics, PADIM)
  • Subscriptions @ 100 ms — 10,000+ monitored items per server
  • Historical (HA) + Events (A&C) + Alarms — full Part 5 / Part 9 / Part 11 conformance
  • Security to IEC 62443 — TLS, X.509 mutual auth, role-based, signed audit log

How It Works

Drivers pull live values from underlying PLCs / sensors / drives and project them into a logical OPC UA address space (a tree of nodes with strict data types, references, and methods). Clients connect, authenticate with X.509 certificates, browse the tree, and create subscriptions for the nodes they care about. The server pushes deltas, events, and historical replays on the same secure channel.

  1. Driver layer — Modbus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, S7, CC-Link, Beckhoff ADS, HART, files
  2. Address space — ISA-95 hierarchy + companion specs, custom information models
  3. Secure channel — Basic256Sha256 / Aes256Sha256RsaPss, TLS, mutual X.509 cert
  4. Subscriptions — client creates monitored items, server pushes deltas at the publishing rate
  5. Historical / events / alarms — HA-Read, Event-Filter, A&C-Subscribe on the same session

Features

  • Full Part 5 / 8 / 9 / 11 / 14 — data access, HA, A&C, PubSub over UADP / MQTT
  • 10,000+ monitored items — per server, with 100 ms publishing rate
  • Companion spec library — PackML, Euromap 77/82, Robotics, PADIM, Weihenstephan
  • Aggregating server — one UA endpoint federating dozens of underlying PLCs / sensors
  • OPC UA PubSub — MQTT / UDP broadcast for cloud-friendly one-to-many distribution
  • GDS-based PKI — Global Discovery Server certificate issuance, automatic rotation
  • Audit trail — every read / write / subscription change signed and forwarded to SIEM
  • HA + load balanced — active-active redundant server pair with shared session migration

Use Cases

  • SCADA modernisation — replace 10 OPC DA / proprietary drivers with one OPC UA endpoint
  • MES / ERP integration — SAP / Oracle pull batch data straight from PLCs via UA
  • Cloud IoT bridge — AWS / Azure IoT consume PubSub UADP without custom code
  • Vendor-neutral SCADA — talk to Siemens, AB, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff with one client
  • Historian centralisation — one HA endpoint feeding the corporate historian for all plants
  • Smart factory / I4.0 — OPC UA Companion Specs are the I4.0 information-model standard
