Overview
Overview
Berth Scheduling is the planning brain of a container terminal: a constraint-aware berth allocation tool that turns AIS vessel ETAs, vessel dimensions, cargo profiles and crane availability into a defensible Gantt schedule. Berth planners can drag, drop and stress-test scenarios in seconds, with conflicts flagged before they hit the water.
Used by berth-on-shift planners, pilot ops and crane gangs to converge on a single truth: who berths where, when, and which quay cranes are assigned. Plugs into the TOS as the upstream scheduler.
- Berth × time Gantt with drag-drop reschedule and constraint validation
- AIS-aware queue — vessels at anchor stay in priority order with live ETA updates
- Crane assignment — allocate quay cranes per vessel with span/clearance checks
- KPI dashboard — berth utilisation, average wait, moves/hr, on-time percentage
How It Works
- Vessel ingest — AIS feed + agency ETAs + line schedules ingested into the vessel queue with LOA, draft, beam, cargo profile, hatch plan.
- Constraint check — for each candidate berth: length, depth, fenders, twin-crane span, tide window, bunker bay availability.
- Gantt plan — planner drags vessel cards onto berth lanes. Engine flags conflicts (overlap, depth, crane reach) in real time.
- Crane assignment — quay cranes assigned per vessel; span / clearance / shift / maintenance windows respected.
- Publish & sync — confirmed plan pushed to TOS, pilot ops, agency portal, and crane gang scheduling.
Features
- Drag-drop Gantt — berth × time lanes with snap-to-tide and snap-to-shift
- Conflict detection — berth overlap, depth, length, fender, crane span — flagged before publish
- Crane assignment — up to 5 QCs per vessel with span/clearance/shift constraints
- What-if scenarios — branch a schedule, run alternative, A/B compare KPIs
- Tide & weather overlay — live tide curve, wind/wave thresholds for restricted classes
- Agency portal — line agents see their vessels and propose changes via web form
- Audit history — every schedule change logged with user, timestamp, reason
- TOS publish — one-click push to Navis N4, OPUS, CATOS — or any TOS via REST/EDI
Use Cases
- Container terminals — mainline + feeder berth allocation across 2–12 berths
- Multi-purpose ports — mixed container, bulk, ro-ro on the same quay
- Bulk & project cargo terminals — long-tail vessels with tight bunker / pilot windows
- Port authorities — central berthing for multi-operator terminals
- Shipping line offices — visibility into upcoming slots across visited ports
- Greenfield terminal commissioning — planning tool from day one, scales with growth
