Overview

Overview

Automated Gate System is a turn-key port truck-gate solution that combines high-speed LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) cameras, ISO 6346 container-ID OCR, driver biometric verification, and a barrier controller into a single lane that processes 60+ trucks per hour with near-zero gate clerks.

Built for sea-port truck gates, intermodal rail terminals, bonded warehouses and distribution hubs that want to eliminate paper tickets, cut driver dwell from minutes to seconds, and feed every gate event straight into the Terminal Operating System.

  • Dual OCR — number plate + ISO 6346 container ID, 99%+ accuracy day & night
  • Driver biometric — face match + fingerprint + port-pass / TWIC card
  • Sub-40 second dwell — auto-raise barrier if plate + container + driver + booking all match
  • TOS-native — native Navis N4, CATOS, Octopi, OPUS integrations out of the box

How It Works

  1. Gate lane — truck triggers an inductive loop. Two high-speed cameras on masts read the number plate and the container ID; the driver pulls up to a kiosk that captures face, fingerprint and port-pass.
  2. OCR + biometric engine — a CRNN model decodes plate and container ID with per-character confidence and ISO 6346 check-digit validation. A face-match model verifies the driver against the licensed haulier's roster.
  3. Gate control — a multi-lane dashboard shows live status (OPEN / SCAN / PASS / HOLD), today's throughput, average dwell and open holds. The controller raises the barrier on a CLEAR verdict or routes the truck to the exception desk.
  4. Yard dispatch — on a clean pass, the system pushes a block / row / tier instruction to the driver's in-cab tablet and notifies the yard crane via TOS. Exceptions (mismatch, broken seal, unknown driver) route to a yard officer.

The purple feedback loop pushes barrier commands, dispatch updates and exception verdicts back into the gate — closing the loop on every truck movement.

Features

  • LPR cameras — IR-illuminated, 60 FPS, optimised for plates moving up to 30 km/h
  • Container ID OCR — ISO 6346 check-digit, hazmat-placard detection, seal-presence check
  • Driver biometric — face (3D liveness), fingerprint, contactless port-pass / TWIC
  • Pre-arrival appointments — QR / app-based booking with auto-match at the gate
  • Damage inspection — optional 5-side camera array auto-flags container damage
  • Hazmat / OOG checks — placard read, dimensions verified vs booking
  • Edge GPU — on-premise inference, <200 ms decision, offline-tolerant
  • TOS integrations — Navis N4, CATOS, OPUS, Octopi, custom REST/EDI

Use Cases

  • Container terminal gates — in-gate and out-gate automation across multiple lanes
  • Inland container depots (ICD) — unmanned gate at empty / repair depots
  • Bonded warehouses — customs-grade evidence for every truck movement
  • Rail freight terminals — intermodal gate with wagon-ID reading variant
  • Refinery / chemical sites — hazmat carrier verification + driver TWIC
  • Distribution centres — trailer pool tracking and dock-door dispatch
