Smart Curtains
Overview
SGT Smart Curtains are motorised curtain and blind tracks that open and close on schedule, on voice command, or automatically based on sunrise, sunset, indoor lux, outdoor temperature and weather forecast.
The motor mounts onto a slim aluminium rail that retrofits over your existing window with no wall damage. It runs on a lithium battery (with optional solar trickle-charge panel), pulls 4 kg of fabric across at whisper-quiet 28 dB, and remembers limit positions after a single calibration sweep. The cloud knows your exact sunrise and sunset times, your local weather, and your peak-tariff window, and uses that to keep rooms cool in the day and snug at night without any input from you.
- Whisper-quiet 28 dB motor — safe to run in a sleeping bedroom
- Solar-aware schedules — sunrise open, sunset close, mid-day tilt for heat
- Battery + solar trickle — up to 6 months per charge, indefinite with panel
- Retrofits any track — aluminium rail kits in 1–6 m lengths
How It Works
The diagram above shows the motor on the rail, the sun crossing the sky, and the cloud routine that ties weather, time and preference together. Hover any module to see its live telemetry.
- The motorised track — brushless motor on a toothed belt with position encoder; learns the open/close limits on first run.
- Sun & light sensing — ambient lux sensor on the rail plus cloud-supplied UV index, cloud cover and rain forecast.
- Schedules & solar — sunrise / sunset times for your geo-location, peak-tariff aware close, vacation-mode randomiser.
- App / voice — iOS / Android app, Alexa, Google, Apple Home, plus a wall-mount scene-button for guests.
The amber stream along the bottom is the live command channel — position, tilt and schedule pushes flowing back to every track.
Features
- Whisper-quiet 28 dB brushless motor with soft start/stop
- 4 kg fabric load per motor — handles blackout, velvet, double-layer
- Sunrise / sunset schedule tied to your local sun calendar
- Lux sensor on the rail — auto-tilt at noon to cut glare
- Weather-aware — close on heavy rain, UV index > 7, or heatwave alert
- Vacation mode — randomised open/close times to mimic occupancy
- Battery + solar trickle — 6 mo per charge, indefinite with optional panel
- Manual override — tug the fabric to start, motor takes over
- Voice control — Alexa, Google, Apple Home (Matter)
- Zoning — group multiple tracks as Living Room, Bedroom, House
Use Cases
- Bedroom wake-up — slow open at sunrise, gentle natural-light alarm
- South-facing living room — mid-day partial close to keep AC load down
- Home office — auto-tilt when the sun hits the screen, no glare
- Vacation security — randomised pattern over 2 weeks while you’re away
- Heat-wave protection — close blackout layer when UV > 8 outside
- Café / restaurant — opens 30 min before doors, closes at sunset, every day
- Elderly / accessibility — one button on the wall replaces a fight with a cord
